What is SOME/IP-ON-Wire

SOME/IP-on-Wire (SoW) is a communication protocol in the Automotive Ethernet (BroadR-Reach) family that enables reliable, secure and flexible communication between electronic control units (ECUs). It is based on the Service-Oriented Middleware over IP (SOME/IP) specification from the AUTOSAR consortium.

SoW provides a means for ECUs to be connected to each other both directly and through multiple networks. This allows for distributed intelligence and reduces the number of cables required for communications between ECUs. SoW also ensures robustness and secure communication between the ECUs.

Features of SOME/IP-ON-Wire

  • Supports client-server communication between multiple ECUs
  • Provides fast and reliable communication
  • Enables service-oriented communication between ECUs
  • Enables dynamic connections and reconfiguration
  • Offers end-to-end security and privacy
  • Supports peer-to-peer connections

Benefits of SOME/IP-ON-Wire

  • Reduces wiring complexity, since it is possible to send data over multiple networks
  • Eliminates the problem of cabling incompatibility, since it supports multiple standards
  • Ensures reliable communication and data integrity
  • Provides end-to-end security and privacy, regardless of the technology used for communication
  • Simplifies the development of distributed systems by allowing for dynamic reconfiguration

Conclusion

SOME/IP-on-Wire offers many benefits to automotive systems. It simplifies the wiring, eliminates the incompatibility of cables, ensures reliable communication and data integrity, and provides end-to-end security and privacy. In addition, its service-oriented approach makes it easier to develop distributed systems.
