What is ERROR in Networking?
Error in networking is an issue that occurs when a network fails to correctly transmit and/or receive data. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including hardware failure, software issues, or even environmental interference. When an error occurs, it disrupts the connection, resulting in data sent not being received, or data received being corrupted. The most commonly seen errors in computer networks are typically categorized as either logical or physical.
Logical Errors
Logical errors are basically caused by bad coding or wrong configuration of network devices. Such errors usually occur due to incorrect settings, wrongly configured protocols, or simply faulty programming. For example, a misconfigured DNS name resolution can lead to missing or incorrect DNS entries, preventing the correct address being assigned to a requested website.
Physical Errors
Physical errors are issues that are caused by actual physical factors such as damaged cables, broken or loose connections, or faulty hardware. These types of errors are typically more difficult to diagnose and resolve than logical errors because of the physical nature of their cause. In order to troubleshoot and fix physical errors, technicians have to first physically inspect the affected equipment to determine the problem.
Errors in networking can be extremely damaging to businesses as they can lead to lost data, disrupted communication, and decreased productivity. It is therefore important to regularly check and maintain network infrastructure to ensure errors do not occur and to spot any problems as soon as they arise.
